Where did you go to school to
learn this stuff?
I didn't go to a school for this.
I am self taught, always
knowing that I had to perform
the best in order to make a
good living. Being hungry is a
good motivation for learning!
Paul frequently says that he
works by the funnel effect.
What does that mean?
The "funnel" is your pipeline
of product. When you begin
to market, always have your
funnel full. Always work to
replace the product that
you've used from your funnel
as fast as you can. You can't
build credibility on what you
say you are going to do. In
other words, don't talk about
it .. do it!

How many board feet can you cut?
This is probably the most frequently asked question. Most
people think high production equals high profit. Not so. If
you're running 2,000 board feet a day into pallet stock at $.28
per board foot to make $560 gross, less the running expense,
you're really going to be tired. Now let's say you're cutting a
low-grade walnut or cherry with a "Y" (crotch) in it and you
only get 250 board feet of lathe turning stock or bowl blanks at
$5 per board foot for a total of $1,250 - and it's a lot more fun!
If you're really lucky, you might find two or three fancy figured
gun stock blanks, which we have sold for as much as $150
each - and that's for 5 board feet.
There is a missing link in the equation of Production=Profit
and that is Marketing. Production + Marketing = Profit.
Do you kiln dry all your products?
No. Carving stock, lathe turning blanks, gun
stock blanks, wildlife call blanks, wall mount
plaques and clock stock blanks are all air dried.
Note: You must always tell your customer that
the product is air dried and for how long it has
been drying.
